Zefiro-Express 2019

In April 2018 BOMBARDIER has won the contract for 40 High-Speed trains ZEFIRO Express for the Swedish operator Västtrafik. The trains will operate in the region of Götaland from year 2021 on. Currently the design development is ongoing inclusive a full-size Mock-up. The assembly of the first trains is scheduled for Q4 2019. The three-car trains are foreseen for high passenger capacity, premium comfort and low operational cost.

EXTERIOR:
All in all, the train reflects a clear and very Scandinavian Design language. This incorporates pure elegance, restrained colors and functionality. The Exterior-Design convinces by a modern, dynamic but also restrained appearance. A special challenge was the consideration of harsh winter conditions with temperatures down to minus 40 degree Celsius and partially high snow as well as the danger of collisions with elks. Those facts lead to a very distinct front-end appearance that still fulfills all requirements for aerodynamics and European standards.

Split-lines are placed to protect sensitive parts or to exchange damaged components with low effort. The lateral skids provide sufficient side-wind stability. The coupler cut-out is closed and protected by a flexible sleeve to avoid show and ice penetration. The concise front-end design is completed by innovative LED front lights and follows the new Brand Design rules of BOMBARDIER.

INTERIOR:
The clear shapes of the exterior continue in the interior. With a width of more than 3 meter the saloon of the Zefiro-Express train is notably spacy and inviting designed. The vestibule is separated from the passenger saloon by a unique architectonic partition wall. It incorporates functional elements like the door drive, litter bins or emergency equipment and is well integrated in to the overall interior. The mix of materials and finishes like wood, stainless steel or ecological fabrics creates an atmosphere of well-being. Finally, the smart lighting solution complements the Design with a Swedish lifestyle.

Strong color contrasts comply with the relevant standards for people with reduced mobility and facilitates the orientation.
