Unique Design

The F425A flagship model sets the bar higher in big offshore craft propulsion with the first application of direct injection technology in a production 4-stroke outboard motor, increasing combustion efficiency and delivering incredible power and torque. It also boasts the highest compression ratio in an outboard motor (12.2:1) to deliver more bang from every spark as well as better efficiency and power, and brings the first fully integrated electric steering system for outboard applications to the industry.

With traditional outboards, a crane is usually necessary for performing rigging, maintenance or customization, and the F425A is over six feet high and weighs over 900 lbs. But thanks to the quick-release, multi-piece bodywork and a wide tilt, the covers can be removed with the motor mounted, providing quicker, easier access to parts of the powerhead and midsection.

A top-of-the-line model also has to look the part. The F425A sports a new pearl-white color scheme that not only emits an aura of quality and refinement on its own, but is amplified when mounted by matching most boat exteriors. White is normally weaker in terms of durability and weather resistance, so we developed a super-durable paint to withstand the demands of saltwater environments.

Lastly, “Absolute Elegance” was the concept for the F425A’s flowing lines and contours and are reminiscent of an athlete’s toned musculature. This design sets the F425A apart and visually communicates the quality and reliability behind the Yamaha name, inspires pride of ownership, and hints at the power and potential pulsing within.

User Experience

The F425A’s electric steering system, combined with the latest generation of Yamaha’s Helm Master joystick steering system and CL7 touchscreen display, provides a fully integrated and intuitive boating experience. It also eliminates the need for rigging cables and hydraulic lines, which brings merits like steering that is more precise and responsive than conventional systems, reduced power consumption, and a much neater appearance for the stern.

Furthermore, the F425A produces thrust in abundance whether moving forward or backward (up to 300% more reverse thrust compared to Yamaha’s F350) thanks to its new model-specific family of stainless-steel propellers and innovative exhaust routing for reduced noise, less vibrations, and more drive. The feeling of propulsion it gives the pilot at the helm is deceiving—as if it is punching far above what the spec sheet says—and is a welcome addition whether you’re backing down on a fish or maneuvering a hefty offshore craft in to dock.

Despite a size and weight greater than the F350, the F425 is engineered to allow an additional 7° of higher tilt, allowing the entire motor and lower unit to be raised completely out of the water when docked. This facilitates quicker, easier maintenance and extends service life, especially for owners with boats at saltwater docks.

Finally, this high-power flagship outboard still produces respectable mileage and can be operated with more affordable 89-octane pump gasoline.

Benefit to Client

The F425A features a host of firsts and innovations that will propel Yamaha’s premium quality brand position to a higher level and strengthen our competitiveness as a pioneer in the marine industry.

Ensuring that the power unit works seamlessly with our Helm Master and other peripheral steering/navigational equipment contributes towards overall profitability and market penetration by offering a comprehensive Yamaha-brand package. With boatbuilders currently facing a labor shortage, this is particularly welcome as the built-in steer-by-wire system makes rigging an easier process, reduces production times and allows for the development of bigger craft. This is all part of our strategy of transitioning from a marine engine manufacturer to an all-inclusive marine system supplier.

The F425A also has a 375-horsepower sister variant, numerous shaft lengths to choose from, and a counter-rotating version to increase availability worldwide while bringing flexibility for mounting and multi-rig applications.

Benefit to Society

The F425 was not only engineered for power and durability, but also adaptability and lasting feasibility in order to meet the growing demand for powering larger boats, especially in North America. Inboard motors were often chosen for bigger craft, but the F425 has brought the maintenance ease, fuel-efficiency, and affordability of outboards to the segment.

The F425A uses the same mounting bolt pattern as the long-selling F350 model and is thereby compatible with countless boats already on offer. This also opens up more user choices for propulsion and is a potential choice for commercial or government operators.

Despite its flagship power, the F425A is also a clean-running engine, exceeding all 2010 US EPA-mandated emissions standards, fully complying with 2008 US CARB emissions standards (3-Star rating), and clearing EU marine emissions regulations. It was also developed to run on less expensive 89-octane gasoline (including an ethanol blend up to 10%) and designed with a highly hydrodynamic body to enhance fuel efficiency, allowing the F425A to take users to farther destinations and back to port on less fuel.

This outboard represents a new choice for boating enthusiasts, whether they are buying new or looking to upgrade, while lowering cost of ownership and keeping eco-friendliness mind, all for delivering more quality time on the water.
