Carnegie is pleased to introduce Xorel Knit, a breakthrough material that leverages the high-performance characteristics of Xorel with the application versatility of a knitted textile. This new construction is the first time Carnegie has offered a Xorel material engineered specifically for upholstery, with the stretch and recovery requirements that many modern furniture pieces demand. To answer the challenge of creating a more suitable upholstery material than the Xorel woven; the Carnegie Creative team led by Heather Bush helped design a new kind of knitting machine.
Xorel is a high performance textile( 38 years in market) used in commercial spaces extensively for wallcovering, panel covering and to cover acoustical tiles. It’s woven form is highly resistant to stains with absolutely no finishes or coatings added. It is a highly vetted product through the Cradle to Cradle(C2C) protocol at the Silver and Gold levels.
Xorel Knit brings the legacy of extreme performance, style and sustainability that the woven is known for into the furniture arena. It exceeds 1 million double rubs in abrasion, is bleach clean able and when upholstered it is even puncture resistant. By its nature the knitting machinery creates a Xorel product with increased depth and dimension and a more subtle lustre. Design possibilities are endless in terms of patterns and colors.
Xorel knit delivers the highest level of performance to the upholstery market, a remarkable combination of functionality and sustainability.
The first collection of 4 designs takes its inspiration from classic apparel designs resulting in a high technical material with a bespoke edge.
