Designers: Studio Ripatti, Helsinki, Finland
Manufacturer: Axo Light Inc., Danbury, Connecticut, USA

After studying architecture and industrial design, Timo Ripatti worked for numerous design studios, ranging from interior design to exhibition design, to the development of lighting and furnishing objects.

Today he is at the helm of Studio Ripatti, which is based in Helsinki and works with clients from different European countries, mainly in the field of product design.

"My mission is to combine aesthetic, poetic and functional qualities in every project. I am fortunate to work with companies that have a broad design vision, which can rely on the most advanced production technology, which offer excellent service and show considerable attention to environmental sustainability” tells Ripatti about his work .

Between 2015 and 2016 he developed together with Axolight U-Light, a collection of large hanging lamps, in which metal processing plays a leading role, just like the Cut collection.

At first glance, Cut looks like a lamp with a simple structure. In reality it is the result of a design process in which Axolight's know-how has enabled us to identify suitable solutions in response to complex passages.

We wanted to develop a lamp that could be oriented, positioned in a stable manner on multiple points, and never dazzled.

We started working at the heart of the project starting, as suggested by the Axo Light R&D team, from a laser-cut aluminium sheet, following the profile of four circumferences of different sizes joined together. We then gave volume to this element, simply by bending the aluminium at the connection points between one circumference and the other.

This support connects two elements that face eachother, the light source and a semi-transparent diffuser disk. Thanks to this structure, the LED light source projects a filtered and partially reflected light beam from the screen, bringing a soft atmospheric light

The Axolight team then continued to work on this unique and dynamic basic element, to the point of developing a family of lamps. It was a surprising result, obtained by developing a few additional components with competence and rigor. "

Soft light that creates ambience

Cut is a family of lamps characterized by a main body that can be oriented in a stable manner in several positions. A laser-cut aluminum structure folded in several points connects two elements: the light source embedded in a circular metal support and a ring that mounts a semi-transparent diffuser disk.

The two elements face each other, so that the light emitted by the light source is filtered and partially reflected by the screen. In this way, Cut never dazzles, whatever the orientation of the lamp.

In the Cut table version it can take on three different positions, in the floor or suspension version the main body can be attached to the three-point support. The Cut family of lamps brings an emotional light and a refined and singular design into space.
