Cross Culture
"SONOKO" combines traditional Japanese tea culture with modern Western philosophy and design language. A form in the art of paper craftsmanship that has been popular for centuries is brought into a new context both functionally and materially.  The synthesis of Asian and modern Western characteristics addresses target groups in different markets.  The choice of materials, texture and color serve the needs of potential buyers looking for aesthetic and emotional warmth.  The form development of "SONOKO" interprets the design of the traditional Japanese lantern shape. Proportions as well as the materials used are varied, but still highly functional.  Strict rules in the design process reflect the ritual of the Japanese tea ceremony. Circular elements in combination with straight lines result in a minimalist soft and timeless design language.  The series includes a teapot with teapot warmer, tea mug, cup and mug with matching saucer.  Wooden tray, wooden spoon and wooden fork complement the porcelain elements.  Different sizes take cultural preferences, when enjoying tea, into account.
