In 1970, percolators dominated the coffee market, brewing bitter, burnt coffee. Mr. Coffee unveiled the world’s first in-home automatic drip coffee maker, creating an entirely new category of easy-to-use products for the home.
No longer a specialty item on a menu, iced coffee popularity has skyrocketed in cafes. However, brewing at home is still a cobbled together solution involving elaborate, time-consuming methods. So, a question arose; can Mr. Coffee do for iced coffee what they did for hot? Mr. Coffee Iced was born.
Design Innovation
Great coffee engages all the senses. The sights. The sounds. The aroma. The product was designed to provide a delightful, unexpectedly simple experience to a routine that has become overly complex and involved.
A compact, fully integrated round design was chosen to minimize countertop footprint and offer a fresh new take on the coffeemaker landscape, which has traditionally been filled with bulky, over-designed machines.
Relocating the brew basket above the water tank was a critical choice to enable this, letting the product have a strong, simple, hourglass silhouette without extraneous details or forms.
One of the most misunderstood areas in coffee brewing is measuring and ratios, leading to unexpected results and bad-tasting coffee.
Extra time, effort, and research was spent creating an easy-to-understand measuring system, including a custom fill scoop and graphical guides, to ensure the perfect ratio of beans to water and a great tasting cup of coffee every time.
