Yongsan History Museum Identity | 2021-2022

Designers: CDR associates, Seoul, Republic of Korea
Client: Yongsan-gu Office, Seoul, Republic of Korea

Yongsan-gu, Seoul is a place that best shows the cross section of Korea's modern history, the most trying period for the country. Therefore, the historical and cultural heritage of Yongsan-gu is not just any local history of Seoul, but itself a history South Korea. Yongsan History Museum is more than a simple history museum; it is a multicultural space that interacts with its citizens with the understanding of Yongsan's history and culture. The MI (museum identity) of Yongsan History Museum is designed based on the common hangul initials of ‘Yongsan’, which represents regionality, and ‘history’, the core content of the museum: ‘ㅇ’and ‘ㅅ’. The image opens and expands left and right, serving as a frame for harboring the many histories of Yongsan. Through an unconventional logotype design, the MI conveys the unique vision of Yongsan History Museum which illuminates the future beyond the past, unlike other existing history museums. The variegated colors applied to its MI symbolize the open space of Yongsan History Museum that embraces a variety of contents and people. The color red represents a dynamic space where citizens gather; the color yellow represents the bright future of Yongsan; the color green represents a place where time, people, and space coexist in Yongsan; and color purple represents a creative space that transcends boundaries.
