Commissioned by Drömtrappor, Alexander Lervik has created Hemvist - a unique staircase collection whose construction is based on mortise and tenon joints; traditional craftsmanship in the furniture industry. The collection also includes a limited edition furniture range made using the same technique. The collection is produced in Norsjö. Here, Drömtrappor has been manufacturing wooden stairs since 1923, using timber from the forests in the area.

Among several Scandinavian furniture classics, the importance of clear details and a high degree of craftsmanship is echoed. It’s about creating a quality product from two perspectives; firstly, that the product is physically long-lasting, and secondly, that it is made with attention to detail, which tends to be appreciated by many people, regardless of age and style ideals,” says Alexander Lervik.

By designing Hemvist with mortise and tenons, the staircase is not only a new product for Drömtrappor; the approach means that individual steps can be easily replaced the day they wear out, which is a completely new technique in the staircase industry.
