Guillaume Ramillien - France
Guillaume Ramillien Architecture SARL - France

After graduating in 2006, Guillaume Ramillien won the Europan 9 competition on the site of the Hôtel-Dieu in Clermont-Ferrand and received the young architecture prize of Lyon. He opened his own office in Paris in 2008, then awarded AJAP in 2016. Guillaume Ramillien launched A.D l’Architecture du Désir in 2014, a studio creating jewelry and collectors’ objects. He teaches at the ENSA Versailles since 2011.

Guillaume Ramillien, breaking with any sort of rhetorical approach, envisages architecture as a manifestation: a potential for feelings, experiences, and relations to be lived through.

Focused on projects of varying scaled, most often part of public commissions, his work questions specifics of places' identity, which are captured through their memory, resources, and material form. Passionate about the phenomenological aspect of construction, Guillaume Ramillien seeks to use materials to create immediacy relations to build spaces that "touch" emotions and uses. In this way, the practice of architecture fairly naturally means going back to "doing." Very conscious of belonging to a generation confronting the vanishing practices and know-how of traditional crafts, in all of his projects, Guillaume Ramillien strives to employ them as much as possible to develop a local economic fabric of craftspeople. He is particularly fond of wood-based crafts, all bio-based materials, and their associated tool-based culture.

To question, explain, and develop his constructions' details, most of his projects are accompanied by large, very complete models, indissociable form the work on the site itself. His line drawings enable him to grasp all the states of reality with the same level of quality, whether it concerns light, use, material, or human presence.
